If you missed week 1 or week 2 you can go back and watch those 2 videos to catch you up.
This week I’m going to show you some great observations you can look for every time you read the Bible.
They are called: “Reasons for/Results of”
God has inspired every word of Scripture for a specific purpose. Every word is in there because He wanted to teach and instruct us.
So you aren’t just reading the Bible.
You are on a treasure hunt! Your goal should be to figure out WHY God put what He did in that passage and determine how it connects to your life.
Watch the video to find out how to make these observations:
Put it into Practice
- Observe
First, you have to find the reason for/result of. Here is the list of keywords you must look for when making these observations. Start looking for these every time you read the Bible and I promise you’ll get more out of your reading.
- Because
- Therefore
- That
- In order that
- So
- So that
- Since
- For
- Thus
- Connect
Once you find that keyword, look before and after to determine what connection the author is making. The author is telling you why he wants you to know, do, or believe something. He also might be giving the result of some action or truth. The context will let you know which one it is. See the video for 2 examples.
- Apply
Once you’ve found the connection make an application in your own life. Does this reveal some examples you need to follow? A sin to avoid? A command to obey?
This is what makes Scripture come to life! You’ve found truth and it is changing you! That’s what reading the Bible is all about.
I pray this helps take your Bible reading to the next level!
As always let me know if you have any questions!
****This video is part 3 of a series of videos I made for a men’s program called the Endurance. There are links above to the other 2 videos I made about Bible study tools.
The Endurance is an online community helping men grow in their faith and godliness — specifically addiction. They have a 30-day Challenge that helps guys start to get free from online addictions. If you are interested in checking out that program you can see it at the link below.
