Christianity is boring. At least that’s what people think.
That’s why I started this blog and this website.
You can tell when you look around your church and ministry. Guys are checked out, people quit showing up, and you have to beg people to serve. Most people’s small groups, if they’re in one at all, are little more than a dinner with friends with a prayer at the beginning. People rarely significant make applications.
They’re bored!
We’ve turned Christianity into a spectator sport.
Literally.
Our people show up and watch someone talk about being a believer in Jesus. The goal of a “good Christian” in Western culture today is to show up to church, give some money, and don’t get into trouble.
Howard Hendricks used to say, “It’s a sin to bore people with the Bible!” But the structure we’ve created has made it too easy to be passive in the faith.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
20x in the short book of 1 Peter he talks about doing good, good conduct or obedience. That doesn’t even count the commands!
Do something!! The Christian life is a life of doing.
That phrase scares people because we are afraid of promoting legalism over grace. But we can’t neglect obedience and action out of fear of people misunderstanding. That would be foolish.
The wise and foolish builders both hear the Word. The difference is in putting it into practice! (Matthew 7:24-27)
People are bored because they aren’t being challenged and helped to live the Christian life the way it was meant to be lived.
So how do we help people put their faith into practice?
We Need to Inspire People to Act
Following Jesus is the most exciting, inspiring mission someone could ever live for. The living King of the universe has commissioned believers to make Him known to all the world. What is done in this life counts for eternity. There is nothing more significant!
I started this site and blog because I believe people are desperate for more. I am! No one wants to go through the motions of faith. I certainly don’t. I want to do something!
I’ve talked to so many guys in churches and small groups and a big reason they get stuck is because they don’t know what to do. They’re used to people doing it for them.
We have created thousands of devotionals, resources, books, podcasts, and conferences all aimed at teaching people about their faith and guiding them along.
The problem is most of those do faith for them. They just fill in the blanks! Eventually that gets boring.
Guided Bible studies and guided prayers leave people unsure of how to walk with God on their own.
We want our disciples to be excited about Jesus and what He is doing in the world. We want them to have a plan to consistently grow in their relationship with him. We want our people engaging the lost around them.
We need to develop our people into mature disciples.
I want to help!
It’s time to Put Discipleship into Practice!
That’s what this site is all about. I don’t want to fill up your inbox with fluffy content or golden nuggets of wisdom.
I want to give you tools you can use in your discipleship. I will give you insight into content I am using in my own life and in my own discipleship. That way we can do this together. I’ll have posts and comments letting you know what is working and what isn’t.
Everything will be application based to drive your people into the Bible with ways to put it into practice. The goal is to help our people be disciples who make disciples.
Whether you are a college student, lay leader in your church, or church leader you will be able to start developing a plan to grow on your own and help your disciples grow! Nothing is more exciting than when God uses you to impact the life of another person.
Let’s do it together!
It certainly wont be boring!
